The materials found within my e-portfolio showcase who I am beyond just a writer, but they also convey my identity in sports. Ms. Sanders laid out three diverse projects, all of which would effectively exercise the skills and formats that would be required in a sports journalism career. She gave leeway to the content in which we chose to write our stories about, making it possible for me to choose stories, players, and lessons I am most passionate about. Aside from the content found within my portfolio, the design aspects of this website portray elements that align with my artistic preferences.
In this e-portfolio, you will find dark, sleek colors, which communicate my professionalism and attention to detail. I carefully curated a theme that aligns with both athletics in aesthetics and my regard for perfection in layout. The color blue, which is the most prominently featured in my e-portfolio, can communicate many different emotions and symbols. I chose this color as a focal point in my design, as blue on one side can mean sadness, which is a large part of my sports journey, which can be found in project one, but blue also ignites themes of stability and authority, which I feel are large components of the sports world.
In my first project, the sports memoir, I shared a story close to my heart that became a highly defining moment in my journey with not just volleyball but sports in general. Writing this memoir was a defining moment in how I would navigate the rest of this course. It gave me the freedom and confidence to write about what was important to me, no matter how difficult it may be to relive difficult memories.
In the second project, the press release, I was able to shift the emotions behind my story from heavy and emotional to fun and unique. I was able to create a dream situation about one of my favorite players and clubs in history and develop these foreign skills in a way that excited me.
In the third project, the feature article, I was able to choose any player to feature, and I chose one whose story was an inspiration to myself, making this piece a combination of meaningful and fun. This project also allowed me to showcase and practice my design skills, which in turn has shown me that I have found much passion within this field.
This course was extremely different from any English course I have taken in previous years. Although I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every course I have taken under my major: editing, writing, and media, my perspective on this course differed from the other ones I have taken, as it was not simply work, but it was more about enjoyable discovery. This course was not a challenging burden but a calm way for me to explore a passion that I have not frequently practiced. This idea is one I tried to convey in both the content of my e-portfolio and the design.
